WASHINGTON – As members of the pro-life movement observe the 48th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalizing abortion in the United States, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters nationwide, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the pro-life cause.

“The pro-life movement is committed to continuing the reduction of the number of abortions, passing legislation to protect unborn children and their mothers, and building a society where problems are solved through affirming life for mother and child, not death,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.

On Thursday, National Right to Life released its annual report, “The State of Abortion in the United States.” Based on recent data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Guttmacher Institute, the total number of abortions since 1973 has exceeded 62 million.

“The tragic legacy of Roe is 62 million lives lost to abortion,” added Tobias. “Every unborn child should be welcomed in life and protected in law. No mother should ever feel like abortion is her only option and no unborn child should ever be considered ‘expendable’.”

A full-page ad from the National Right to Life Educational Foundation ran Friday to commemorate the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The ad appeared in Section A of the national edition of The Wall Street Journal as part of National Right to Life’s long-standing Media Impact Campaign. In addition, the Educational Foundation is doing a “home page takeover” of wsj.com with digital ads running all day long.
