RIGHT-TO-LIFE ACTIVISTS PROVIDE
A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS IN LOUISIANA
45th Annual National Right to Life Convention kicks off in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – As the 45th Annual National Right to Life Convention kicks off at the New Orleans Marriott in the historic French Quarter, the mood is hopeful among the diverse group of right-to-life activists. First held in Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. in 1971, the annual National Right to Life Convention brings together grassroots leaders of the right-to-life movement to exchange ideas, share information, learn from leading experts, and join together in the common goal of restoring legal protection for all innocent human life.

“In the struggle for basic human rights, I am so proud of the attendees of our annual National Right to Life convention who are steadfast in their efforts to protect vulnerable members of the human family,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “The diverse crowd, representing every segment of the population, demonstrates what polls have repeatedly shown: that the majority of Americans oppose abortion on demand.”

Tackling and tearing down the “war on women” rhetoric being employed by the abortion industry, the convention includes a discussion with veteran political pundit Mary Matalin and radio and television personality Rachel Campos Duffy.

“The real war on women is being waged by an abortion industry that cares more about its financial bottom line than it does the women they claim to serve,” added Tobias.

Tonight, Louisiana Right to Life will host “The Festival of Life: A Taste of Louisiana,” featuring New Orleans Auxiliary Bishop Fernand J. Cheri, O.F.M, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

A major highlight of this year’s convention will be the Republican Presidential Candidate Forum featuring Dr. Ben Carson of Maryland, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida. The forum will be held 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.,Friday, July 10. Also addressing the session will be National Right to Life President Carol Tobias, Executive Director David N. O’Steen, Ph.D., Co-Executive Director Darla St. Martin, and Political Director Karen Cross.

As the convention, themed “We Are A Voice for the Voiceless” begins, public opinion polls continue to reflect what the many attendees at NRLC 2015 demonstrate: a majority of Americans reject the idea that abortion should be widely available for any reason. A Gallup poll released in May found that just 42% were in favor of the current abortion-on-demand policy with 29% saying abortion should be legal under any circumstances and 13% saying abortion should be legal under most circumstances. A substantial majority, 55%, believes abortion should be legal in only a few circumstances (36%) or illegal in all circumstances (19%).

Last held in New Orleans in 1987, this year’s convention is hosted by the Louisiana Right to Life Federation, the state National Right to Life affiliate. The annual National Right to Life convention features more than 70 workshops and general sessions, a prayer breakfast featuring Alan & Kay Robertson and Miss Kay Robertson from A&E Network’s hit series, Ducky Dynasty, closing keynote banquet with John McCormack of The Weekly Standard.

A concurrent National Teens For Life (NTL) convention is also being held with sessions geared toward nurturing and educating the next generation of pro-life leaders. The official youth outreach program of National Right to Life, NTL celebrates its 30th anniversary at this year’s convention.
