Victory in Kentucky: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Wins Re-Election

Nov 3, 2020 | 2020 Press Releases, Press Releases, Press Room

WASHINGTON — Pro-life Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tonight defeated pro-abortion Democrat Amy McGrath in the race for U.S. Senate. Senator McConnell was endorsed by National Right to Life.

“We congratulate Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for his re-election to the U.S. Senate,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “National Right to Life and Kentucky Right to Life reached out to voters across the state of Kentucky to make it clear that the pro-life values of the state would be best represented in the U.S. Senate by Senator Mitch McConnell and the voters responded.”

Senator McConnell co-sponsored and voted for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This legislation would protect unborn children at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.

Senator McConnell co-sponsored and voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This Act would require that a baby born alive during an abortion be afforded the same degree of care that would apply to any other child delivered at the same gestational age.

Senator McConnell voted numerous times against using tax dollars to pay for abortion, and he opposes taxpayer funding of abortion providers.

Senator McConnell has also fought tirelessly to confirm hundreds of federal judges to the bench, including U.S. Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

“National Right to Life looks forward to continuing our work with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the U.S. Senate to advance life-affirming, pro-life policies that protect unborn children and their mothers,” said Tobias.

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide assisted suicide and euthanasia.
