Alabama First Lady Dianne BentleyFirst Lady Mrs. Robert Bentley will speak at a noon rally Thursday on the steps of the Alabama State House in Montgomery as part of Pro-Life Legislative Day. She will be joined by nine state Senators and Representatives. Grassroots activists are gathering to talk to their legislators, find out where they stand on crucial pro-life legislation, and let them know how strongly they want them to support pro-life amendments and pro-life bills.

The Legislature is also set to honor all the Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) across Alabama. Many of the directors and staff of these life-saving centers will be present to receive this much deserved honor.

On Tuesday, two more pro-life bills were introduced, bringing the total this session to eight. Among them are: the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HB 18); a bill to specifically provide that the Alabama affirmatively opts out of allowing abortion coverage by exchange participating health plans; and a bill making it unlawful to administer any abortion-inducing drug to a woman without her first receiving an exam in person.

On Wednesday the House Health Committee passed the HB 18, Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, on a voice vote. Sponsored by Republican Rep. Kerry Rich, the bill now goes to the House. HB 18 would ban abortions performed on unborn children beginning at 20 weeks post-fertilization, a point at which scientific studies have demonstrated the unborn child can experience pain. Pro-lifers in Alabama have been asked to please contact their legislators and ask for their support. Without their help, this bill will not become law and the killing of these pain-capable children will continue.
