“The New Pro-Life Surge”

As I read the new Christianity Today story titled “The New Pro-Life Surge,” it occurred to me how often I write about pro-abortionists lamenting the wave of life-affirming legislation and how seldom I write about pro-life media outlets celebrating our victories. Note to self: don’t stop with the former, but do more of the latter.

Sara Eekhoff Zylstra’s fine overview can be read at She does a good  job summarizing the categories of victories (such as the passage of pain-capable unborn child protect acts), quoting a representative of the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute admitting that the “pro-choice” movement is “definitely defensive,” but also reminding her readers that pro-abortionists, like lions seeking out the most defenseless, are stalking crisis pregnancy centers.

Zylstra nicely weaves the story of a woman who is now a director at a Pregnancy Support Center into that NARAL-inspired attack on women-helping centers.

As a young woman, Katey Tryon twice became pregnant but, rather than choosing abortion, choose life and then chose adoption. Now, many years later, she not only is able to help similarly-situated young women but also testified last April before the Oregon legislature.

The usual suspects were trying to pass harassing laws that targeted pregnancy centers. But Tryon told legislators “about how a pregnancy center changed her life for the better.” We learn in the last paragraph that the story, the assault was defeated in April. (A similar bill in Washington state was beat back in March.)
