Wisconsin Right to Life Celebrates Retention of Pro-Life Majority in Senate

by | Aug 11, 2011

Wisconsin Right to Life today is celebrating tremendous victories in yesterday’s historic recall elections that insure the state Senate remains in the hands of a right-to-life majority. In spite of the expenditure of enormous amounts of pro-abortion money, four of six pro-life Republican state senators prevailed. Pro-abortionists needed to carry three elections to reach a majority in the 33-member body.

The people of the Wisconsin Right to Life PAC worked tirelessly on behalf of Senators Alberta Darling, Robert Cowles, Luther Olsen, and Sheila Harsdorf who were victorious in their hard-fought elections.  According to news accounts, the turnout was extremely heavy, rivaling last fall’s race for governor, and in one case surpassing it.

“The stakes were extremely high,” said Susan Armacost, Wisconsin Right to Life Legislative/PAC Director. “Had the State Senate fallen back into the hands of a pro-abortion majority, our life-saving legislative agenda would have come to a grinding halt and the real losers would have been the unborn.”

Armacost noted, “The Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion movement may have had more money and resources, but we outmatched them in getting our supporters to the polls and that is what always matters the most in any election. We want to thank the hundreds of our dedicated volunteers who worked round the clock to help secure this victory.  And we thank our wonderful members and supporters who cast their ballots for Wisconsin Right to Life PAC-supported candidates.”

Pro-abortion Democrats did prevail in two re-call elections.,”We will greatly miss Senator Dan Kapanke and Senator Randy Hopper who have been such stalwart supporters of the right-to-life cause,” Armacost said. “We wish them the best.”

Last night’s elections were all against incumbent Republicans. The Wisconsin Right to Life PAC is also involved in the upcoming recall elections on August 16 which will involve two Democratic state senators, Jim Holperin  and Bob Wirch.
