Last week I ran across a very brief item in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The story was about a man who had died of his wounds.
“There now have been 232 homicides this year, compared to 226 the same time last year,” according to the Staff writer. “But this year’s total includes the eight alleged victims of West Philadelphia abortion clinic doctor Kermit Gosnell, all of whom died before 2011.”
I ran excerpts for weeks from an angry and indignant Grand Jury report about Gosnell and his Women’s Medical Center abortion clinic. The report details alleged practices so hideous it took a strong stomach just to read them.
The Grand Jury was brutally honest. “Gosnell and his staff severed the spinal cords of viable, moving, breathing babies who were born alive.” He is charged with eight counts of murder and awaits trial.
How quickly we forget.
Yesterday pro-abortionists rallied in opposition to Senate Bill 732 which would raise safety standards at abortion clinics in Pennsylvania. Naturally, in their eyes, the new standards are unnecessary and “burdensome.” The legislation is in direct response to the outrage sparked by Gosnell’s ghastly behavior.
The day before several dozen state lawmakers called for swift approval of the measure in the state House. At a news conference they refuted the standard pro-abortion reasons to oppose the law.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rep. Jerry Stern said, “I would think any woman who has a medical procedure performed at one of these clinics would want to be assured that the facility meets state minimum standards.” He added, “The conditions and treatment that women have been subjected to at facilities such as the Women’s Medical Society in Philadelphia and the Allentown Medical Services are quite honestly disgraceful.”
