What’s Airing on Pro-Life Perspective? “Abortion History Myths,” Part One

by | Dec 13, 2011

By Dave Andrusko

National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias begins the week by referencing the important book, Dispelling the Myths of Abortion History, written by Villanova Law School Professor Joseph Dellapenna. In Mrs. Tobias’s words, the massive 1,300 page book “systematically exposes the legions of lies–legal, historical, social, and otherwise–on which Roe v. Wade rests.”

Among Professor Dellapenna’s main points are a blow-by-blow rebuttal of the major arguments—all flawed—that Roe author relied on in 1973. For example, “abortion was not commonly practiced through the last few thousand years” nor was abortion a “liberty women were free to enjoy: abortion was, in fact, a crime under English common law and in ecclesiastical courts in England from at least the 14th century.”

Closer to contemporary times, Professor Dellapenna demonstrated in exacting detail the aim of the state laws enacted in the 19th century to codify the common-law crime of abortion: to “protect the lives of unborn children at even the earliest stage of pregnancy.”

Take the time (broadcasts are only five minutes long) to go to www.prolifeperspective.com and hear more about how Prof. Dellapenna dismantled the historical foundation on which Roe v. Wade rested. (Hint: it is NOT true, for instance, that Roe v. Wade was the inevitable outcome of an ongoing campaign at the state level in the late 1960s and early 1970s to weaken legal protections for unborn children.)

Be sure to listen to “Abortion History Myths,” Part One” and pass it along through your social networks.
