National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias reflects on a very sensitive topic: the critical importance of pro-life efforts on behalf of the sick, the elderly, and the medically vulnerable as well as fighting for the unborn. We know it, but those outside the pro-life community don’t know that we have been at this battle just as long as we have in fighting abortion. Just see the first issue of National Right to Life News for evidence.

Mrs. Tobias interviewed the sister of Terri Schindler Schiavo all last week. Together they discussed all that the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network is doing. Today Mrs. Tobias returns briefly to those ugly days when those of us who fought for Terri were derided as “zealots” and Terri herself dismissed as “vegetative.

“Then, as now, we fought against such language.” Mrs. Tobias reminds us. “We knew that ‘vegetative state’ was as inaccurate and dehumanizing as the phrase ‘blob of tissue.’ And, as anyone hoping to be given a semblance of credibility has ceased using such a ridiculous term as ‘blob,’ we can only pray that ‘vegetative state’ will go down that same route.”

The remainder of today’s five-minute program is devoting to talking about the breakthroughs in research that make this possible. (As it happens we have another story on this today.)
