Obama Self-Image of his accomplishments Very Much at Odds with public’s assessment

With five pro-life Republicans fiercely battling to win their party’s presidential nomination, understandably most media attention hones in on their spirited back and forth. Occasionally, however, the news is so awful for pro-abortion President Barack Obama, you get brutally frank assessments of a man of whom the public grows increasingly weary (and wary).

For example, there are the results of a  new Washington Post-ABC News poll released yesterday. Catch this lead from Jon Cohen and Dan Balz.

“As President Obama prepares to give his third State of the Union address next week, he faces a dispirited and polarized electorate that is sharply divided over his record, worried about the pace of the economic recovery and deeply pessimistic about the country’s trajectory.

“In a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, 9 percent of Americans see a strong economic recovery — a number that has hardly budged in more than two years. Twice as many say they are worse off financially since Obama became president than say their situations have improved.

“Slightly more than half the respondents — 52 percent — say Obama has accomplished ‘not much’ or ‘little or nothing’ as president, while 47 percent offer a positive assessment of his record. Those findings are identical to public attitudes two years ago.”

To be sure, the story goes on to offer evidence that affairs could turn around for President Obama. Nothing is cast in stone, other than the critically important truth that he is the most pro-abortion President ever.

Having said that, what else does the poll tell us?

·         Obama’s job ratings are 48% approval and 48 % disapproval.

·         On the question of handling the economy, a whopping total of 57%  strongly disapprove (46%) or somewhat disapprove (11%).

·         68% believes the country has gotten “pretty seriously off on the wrong track.”

Perhaps the most revealing assessment came in a story that appeared in POLITICO.

“The poll is a stinging rebuke to an administration that private[ly] believes their domestic and foreign policy accomplishments are unmatched in recent history,” writes Byron Tau. “President Obama himself raised eyebrows when he told CBS that he ‘would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president — with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.’”
