The Power of your Words

Jan 25, 2012

By Dave Andrusko

In the midst of all the action surrounding the March for Life, including talking with many visitors to the National Right to Life office, NRLC received an email that was forwarded to me late yesterday. It was from a young woman who had received a message from NRLC, thanking pro-lifers and reminding them that because of their work, “Today there are 400,000 fewer abortions annually than there were 20 years ago.”

The colleague who copied me on the email reminding me of a very important truth: “You never know when your words or your actions may save a life or change the direction of a life.  May God bless our words and actions.” While this instance involved NRLC, it is a truth for all pro-lifers.

The woman who wrote us told of giving a brief talk during Sanctity of Life Sunday services. She described her remarks as a strong message and she was nervous. But she gave it up to God and was relieved when several people came up to congratulate her.

However the most reassuring message of the day came when a woman approached her to say she’d been sitting next to a couple whose unborn baby had been diagnosed with trisomy 18. Unlike 90% of the couples who receive this prenatal diagnosis, they had already decided to carry their baby to term.

The woman who had witnessed the couple’s expressions while our email writer had been giving her pro-life talk told her they kept looking at one another and smiling. “It was like they were thinking, yes, our baby is still God’s child, and yes, we did make the right decision.”

Our e-mailer concluded her message to us by remarking that even had everyone in her church disagreed with her pro-life first approach, it would have been worth it just to be able to give this couple reassurance and peace.

Like you, I couldn’t agree more.
