What’s Airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “Register to Vote: It’s Your Duty”

National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias begins Thursday’s PLP broadcast with a soaring reminder of our privileges as Americans and a sobering statistic.

“More than two centuries ago our nation=s Founding Fathers paid heavily for the freedoms we enjoy today,” she says today. “They pledged their lives, their fortunes and their honor so we could live without oppression or tyranny.”

But too often these are rights we take for granted, in particular the right to vote. On average, Mrs. Tobias says, less than 50% of eligible voters take the time to participate in a presidential election! In the “off-year elections” (the years there is not a presidential election), the turnout is far less.

However, Mrs. Tobias reminds us of this not to criticize but to encourage us as pro-lifers and citizens. There are two particularly salient points which you can listen to at www.prolifeperspective.com.

First, “Most registrar’s offices require you to register at least a month before an election. Many locales have made it easier to vote by giving you the option to register to vote when you visit the division of motor vehicles in your state to renew your license or car registration.”

NRLC has made it easier to find out the registration requirements in your area and, in many cases, print out the form you need.  Just go to http://nrlc.www.capwiz.com/election/register_vote.  Registering to vote takes only minutes to do and you only have to register again if, for example, you move or have a name change due to marriage.

Second, to make a fully informed decision we need to know about the issues and the positions of the candidates. “Websites you know you can trust, such as National Right to Life=s or those of our affiliates, often contain information about particular issues and the views of national candidates for office,” Mrs. Tobias explains. ”With this information in hand, you will know that you are voting for the candidate who supports your beliefs. Remember, an educated voter is an empowered voter.”

If you are not registered, be sure you go to http://nrlc.www.capwiz.com/election/register_vote to find out the requirements in your area. Before you know it, it will be November 6.
