NARAL Says “Zealots” (Pro-Lifers) “Have Their Man”—Mitt Romney

Apr 20, 2012

Mitt Romney

All this week we’ve been writing about the endorsement of pro-life Mitt Romney by National Right to Life, followed by a growing number of NRLC’s state affiliates. This has not gone unnoticed by NARAL Pro-Choice America.

In the calm rational tones that we’ve come to expect from Nancy Keenan, who is NARAL’s President, we read this today:

“The National Right to Life Committee, along with anti-choice groups in states like Missouri, Massachusetts, and Ohio have also endorsed Romney because of his extreme views.

“The zealots have their man — and that man wants to keep waging a War on Women.”

Well, just to be accurate, the political action committees of seven other NRLC affiliates  have also endorsed the former governor of Massachusetts: Right to Life of Michigan, New York State Right to Life, Florida Right to Life, Nevada Right to Life,  the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Rhode Island State Right to Life Committee, West Virginians for Life, and Wisconsin Right to Life.

But I guess if you’ve seen one “anti-choice group,” you’ve seen them all.

This is a fundraiser from NARAL so we would expect that Keenan would write, “In a race this close, the money these anti-choice groups will spend to defeat President Obama could tip the scales in favor of Romney — unless we fight back.” Of course, pro-abortion groups such as NARAL and EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood’s political arm are awash in money.

In stark contrast pro-life groups rely on volunteers which makes Keenan’s remark—“show anti-choice groups that their money won’t buy this election”—almost comically inaccurate and misleading even by pro-abortion standards.

Keenan concludes, “Mitt Romney said he was ‘honored’ to be endorsed by these radical anti-woman extremists. That’s because he shares their priorities.” Well, yes!

Here’s what Mr. Romney wrote, upon hearing of NRLC’s endorsement:

“The National Right to Life Committee has been on the front lines of the fight to protect the unborn and uphold the sanctity of life. I appreciate their leadership and the tireless commitment of their nationwide grassroots pro-life effort. I am grateful for their support and honored by the trust they have placed in me. And I look forward to working together to carry out the great responsibility of defending and protecting innocent human life.”

As National Right to Life President Carol Tobias said at the press conference announcing the endorsement

“As the country’s most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda. The lives of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly are at risk.”

And to see their stands, go to “Where do the Candidates Stand on Life?”  When you read them, you will see why Mrs. Tobias said

“On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast.”
