National Right to Life State Affiliates Rally Around Romney for President

by | Apr 18, 2012

By Karen Cross, National Right to Life Political Director

”]On April 12, 2012, within hours after the National Right to Life Political Action Committee endorsed pro-life Governor Mitt Romney for president, Massachusetts Citizens for Life Political Action Committee (MCFL PAC), the state affiliate who knows him best, endorsed their former governor for president. Other state affiliates followed suit, and many others will follow soon.

In their announcement, MCFL PAC stated, “As the country’s most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda.”

“In contrast,” MCFL PAC continued, “as governor, Mitt Romney worked closely with MCFL.  He takes a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn, the medically dependent, the disabled, and the elderly.”

John Rowe, MCFL PAC Chair, urged the voters of Massachusetts “to unite behind Mitt Romney for the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly.”

“Romney opposes abortion and has called the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, ‘a big mistake.’ Romney has expressed his support of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortion. Romney proposes to repeal the Obama health care law which funds abortion, rationing, denial of lifesaving medical care, and slashes conscience rights. He has promised to reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which prevents federal dollars from going to organizations that perform or promote abortion overseas.”

Subsequently, many of National Right to Life’s state affiliates have endorsed Mitt Romney for president.  Missouri Right to Life Federal Political Action Committee, Nevada Right to Life PAC, Ohio Right to Life Society Political Action Committee, the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation PAC, Rhode Island State Right to Life Committee, West Virginians for Life Political Action Committee, Wisconsin Right to Life Political Action Committee, and Florida Right to Life’s Political Action Committee have all endorsed.

Also on April 12, Missouri Right to Life announced,

“We join a growing number of leading pro-life advocates including the National Right to Life Committee PAC, who believe Mr. Romney will be a strong advocate for life in the role of Chief Executive.  Mitt Romney represents a profound contrast to the policies and practices of Barack Obama in regard to the sanctity of human life.  His commitment to lead pro-life Americans in our efforts to stop the abortion mandates in Obamacare is a solid reason to ask Missourians to support Mitt Romney for election in November.”

Jeremy McNeil, Executive Director of Nevada Right to Life PAC, announced today that the PAC has endorsed Mitt Romney for the office of President of the United States. He said,

“Nevada Right to Life PAC’s endorsement of Mitt Romney reflects his sincere determination to promote the culture of life in the United States. “Our Country is at a critical juncture; the very concept of the dignity of human life is under unprecedented attack.  Nevada Right to Life PAC is convinced Mitt Romney will work diligently to reverse pro-abortion legislative and administrative actions and to protect innocent life – unborn children, medically disabled or dependent persons, and the elderly, whose lives are threatened by abortion or euthanasia.”

McNeil added, “Nevada Right to Life PAC is proud to endorse Mitt Romney for President of the United States.”

On behalf of Ohio Right to Life PAC, Mike Gonidakis, executive director for Ohio Right to Life, announced their endorsement of pro-life candidate Mitt Romney for president.

“In our battleground state, Ohio Right to Life strongly encourages pro-life Ohioans to lend their full support to this year’s pro-life presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. “Americans find themselves at a tipping point leading up to the 2012 presidential election. This president even went so far as to threaten to shut down our government unless taxpayers continued to fund Planned Parenthood.  Governor Romney is committed to protecting mothers and their unborn babies.  It is clear that he will appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court and by doing so, we will ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade.”

In their endorsement announcement, Maria Gallagher, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation PAC director, said, “Like most Americans, Mitt Romney believes that Obamacare should be repealed.  Obamacare is bad medicine, and it would mean that Americans would be denied lifesaving treatment by a bunch of Washington bureaucrats.”

According to Barth Bracy, Rhode Island State Right to Life executive director,

“Never has there been a more important presidential election for the pro-life movement.  Barack Obama has been the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s history.  He has pursued, and continues to pursue, a radical abortion agenda, and recently, an unprecedented assault on religious liberty and rights of conscience.  Knowing that this critical election will determine the fate of unborn children for decades to come, we call upon all pro-life citizens to unite behind Governor Mitt Romney.”

“The Rhode Island State Right to Life Committee looks forward to Governor Romney’s election as our next pro-life president on November 6,” Bracy added.

West Virginians for Life PAC President Wanda Franz, Ph.D., in its endorsement announcement, said, “Mitt Romney’s pro-life positions are representative of the strong pro-life commitment of West Virginia voters.  We look forward to his successful campaign here in our state.”

In announcing the endorsement of Governor Romney April 16, Wisconsin Right to Life PAC Director Susan Armacost said,

“We are extremely proud to endorse Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States.  The choice between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama on right-to-life issues could not be more stark. Barack Obama is the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s history.  In his first term, he began the process of undoing decades of progress toward creating a culture of life in our nation and promoted measures that jeopardize the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.  If he is re-elected to a second term, we shudder to think of the radical measures he will promote that will further demean the lives of unborn children, those with disabilities, and the elderly.”

“It is time for every American citizen who believes in the right to life cause to unite behind Mitt Romney,” Armacost added.

“Florida Right to Life’s Political Action Committee is proud to endorse Mitt Romney for President,” Florida Right to Life president Carrie Eisnaugle announced today.

“We are prepared to do everything we can to help Mitt Romney, the pro-life candidate in this race, win the presidency, so the protection of human life will be a priority in this nation once again.  We encourage all Floridians to participate in the election process by getting out to vote and to join the campaign team in your area to elect Mitt Romney for President.”

Upon learning about National Right to Life Political Action Committee endorsement, Mitt Romney issued the following statement:

“The National Right to Life Committee has been on the front lines of the fight to protect the unborn and uphold the sanctity of life. I appreciate their leadership and the tireless commitment of their nationwide grassroots pro-life effort. I am grateful for their support and honored by the trust they have placed in me. And I look forward to working together to carry out the great responsibility of defending and protecting innocent human life.”

Carol Tobias, National Right to Life President, said,  “It is exciting to see the support for Romney across the nation!  As we rally around Romney, we are already seeing his polling numbers improve.

She predicted, “When pro-life Americans see the stark contrast between pro-life Governor Romney and pro-abortion President Obama, they’ll join us because pro-life voters know that if we stay home on election day, babies die.”
