In the crush of the end of the 2012 legislative session, a commonsense measure to require abortion clinic to meet the same standards as outpatient surgery centers will not become law.

The bill, sponsored by state Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin, passed the House last week 93-4. However today is the last day for the Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee to consider bills, which it did not do with her bill.

According to the Associated Press McClurkin said she will reintroduce the bill in the 2013 session which starts in February.
