National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias begins the week with a heads-up for PLP listeners. Next month is the twentieth anniversary of the UN Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. “Rio+20,” the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, will be held in June in Rio de Janeiro.

Mrs. Tobias reminds us that National Right to Life is once again working to educate delegates and ambassadors about efforts by pro-abortion groups to make abortion a “human right” worldwide. In advance of the Conference a passionately-worded statement in defense of human life was submitted by NRLC Vice President for International Affairs, Jeanne Head, RN, behalf of the National Right to Life Education Trust Fund

Whereas a number of groups who advocate expanded abortion are included on the Rio+20 website, National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund  is one of only two pro-life organizations with contributions accepted by the Conference and posted. (You can read it in its entirety at www.uncsd2012.org/rio20/index.php?page=view&type=510&nr=704&menu=20.)

You will want to listen at www.prolifeperspective.com to hear Mrs. Tobias outline the history of pro-abortion organizations’ efforts to use UN conferences to further their agenda. She also talks about how

“when pro-life policies are abandoned, unborn lives are lost. In a lawsuit to block enforcement of the pro-life Mexico City Policy, which had been restored by President George W. Bush in January 2001, the Center for Reproductive Rights boasted that several nations legalized abortion during the Clinton Administration (from 1993 to 2000) when the Mexico City Policy was not in effect. The Center for Reproductive Rights was founded in 1992 for the express purpose of establishing abortion as an enforceable human right worldwide.”

And because of the efforts of the Obama Administration U.S. foreign aid funds can go to groups that perform, promote, and work to legalize abortion in other countries. “Millions of our tax dollars now bankroll the aggressive promotion of abortion around the globe,” Mrs. Tobias says.

On Tuesday Mrs. Tobias will continue her look at efforts by pro-abortion advocates like the UNFPA and International Planned Parenthood to expand abortion around the world and the  upcoming Rio+ 20 Conference in June.
