What you can find on YouTube is just amazing. Pro-Lifers have been very kind in passing on relevant stories, including one that National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias talks about on Monday’s edition (see www.prolifeperspective.com).
Fred Hammond is a Dove Award and Grammy Award-winning gospel artist and appeared not so long ago on Donnie McClurkin’s radio show. McClurkin is also a Dove and Grammy award winning gospel singer who served as an associate pastor under the Reverend Martin Winans in Detroit and is now Senior Pastor at Perfecting Faith Church in Flushing, Long Island.
As Mrs. Tobias explains Hammond told McClurkin and his radio audience about a conversation he had with his mother just three months before she died. As Hammond relayed what happened, “She was crying and she was sorry.” And out of the blue she told a stunned Fred and his daughter, “Fred was aborted.”
Hammond’s response was, of course one of utter disbelief: “What are you talking about?!” he said.
Hammond relayed as how his mother said, “I went to the clinic, and it was illegal to do it in the 50s and 60s, and I had you aborted. And I was supposed to go home and have a miscarriage, and bring you back in a bag.”
But after two days and then three days of waiting for a dead baby, his mother went back to the abortion clinic and said
“‘I don’t think it worked. …’ They said, ‘No, it’s still there, we’ll get it this time.’” As she laid there and they went to get the tools, she thought about what God was thinking and ‘she got up and ran out, putting her clothes on.’”
At that point on the YouTube video, Hammond, who was born in 1961, explains what all this meant to him personally:
“[A]t the end of the day, when I was supposed to be discarded, and the tools came in to kill me, to crush my head or whatever you’re supposed to do, the Lord took His hand, pushed in there, and pushed me back out of the way. And they thought they got me. But at the end of the day God had a plan for a broken situation.”
From that amazing story, Mrs. Tobias goes on to discuss other abortion survivors, including Gianna Jessen and Melissa Ohden, whose powerful testimonies have captivated and transfixed audiences around the world. (Mrs. Ohden is speaking at the National Right to Life Convention. Go to www.nrlconvention.com for details.)
Today’s episode of Pro-Life Perspective concludes with Donnie McClurkin’s memorable words:
“A lot of things that people think are mistakes wind up to be used by God in great ways.”
