For Wednesday’s edition of Pro-Life Perspective, National Right to Life President and PLP Host Carol Tobias talks about an article that recently ran in National Right to Life News Today that tackled head on the ideological resistance to the truth that there is a post-abortion syndrome.

Mrs. Tobias observes that the author of that article,

British Dr. Pravin Thevathasan, editor of Catholic Medical Quarterly, begins with evidence that “there are psychological consequences to having an abortion has been accepted by many in the pro-life and pro-abortion camps.” Even some self-described pro-choicers have been persuaded by the evidence, including Professor David Fergusson who found that women who have abortions are twice as likely to suffer mental health issues and three times more likely to suffer specifically from depression than women who have either given birth or never been pregnant.

Yet as Mrs. Tobias notes, Dr. Thevathasan explains that nevertheless “there is an ideological drive to state that there are no psychological consequences to having an abortion.” Mrs. Tobias then uses the remainder of today’s broadcast, found at, to elaborate on that resistance to the evidence.

After showing the inadequacy of various studies purporting to show there are no after-effects to abortion, Dr. Thevathasan does an excellent job detailing the pro-abortion attacks on Dr. Priscilla Coleman.

Dr. Coleman’s meta-analysis on abortion and mental health was published last year in the British Journal of Psychiatry. “The conclusion of her study,” Mrs. Tobias says, “is that there is an 81 percent increased risk of developing mental health problems after abortion, including anxiety, depression and substance misuse.”

Dr. Coleman’s careful research MUST be attacked, lest the truth get out.

There is much more to listen to at If you’ve missed any broadcasts this week, you can hear them here. And there are also a host of resources there to help you understand the science behind post-abortion syndrome.
