What’s Airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “When Money Replaces the Voice of Sincerity”

May 12, 2012

NRLC President Carol Tobias

By Dave Andrusko

National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias ends this week’s PLP episodes with a very thoughtful look at one columnist to illustrate why so many reporters miss so much. But she begins with two pro-abortion accounts which have led them to conclude pro-abortionists are “under siege.”

While this was largely to gin up their own supporters, there was plenty for abortion advocates to worry  about. The Movement has been on the move, passing legislation against huge odds.

However the core of today’s PLP is how one Washington Post columnist converts this life-and-death struggle into pretty much of a cynical game between equally cynical pro- and anti-life forces.

“Dana Milbank’s basic contention—that pro- and anti-life groups really aren’t all that interested in stopping abortion—is hardly a new charge,” Mrs. Tobias tells us. “Intended to give abortion supporters like Milbank an air of even-handedness, this is a flagrant example of false equivalency.”

You will want to listen for yourself, so please take five minutes of your time and go to www.prolifeperspective.com. You will hear how Milbank’s own “evidence” undermines his conclusion. The worst is his verbal gymnastics. Mrs. Tobias tells us that Milbank

“caustically says that neither side is interested in compromise because they have ‘strong financial incentives to avoid consensus and compromise.’ He somehow overlooks the fact that hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers traveled to their state capitals and to Washington to mark the 39th anniversary of Roe. To Milbank the youth rallies, youth conferences, and prayer vigils aren’t activism; they are fundraising machines.”

He also manages to miss that pro-abortionists have access to countless millions from Hollywood as well as state governments and the federal treasury. By ignoring the grassroots nature of the Pro-Life Movement and the deep pockets of pro-abortionists, Milbank can conclude  it’s all a “carnival,” just “Roe week in Washington.”

It could not be further from the truth for National Right to Life and its vast network of grassroots pro-lifer activists.
