Planned Parenthood’s political arm to spend more than $3.2 million in two swing states

The full artillery of the Abortion Establishment is being aimed directly at pro-life Mitt Romney in swing states. They understand he is the antithesis of pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

Planned Parenthood’s political arm—the Planned Parenthood Action Fund—will reportedly spend $3.2 million this September in Ohio and Virginia, according to The Hill’s Alexander Bolton. This will be a follow up to a $1.4 million “anti-Romney ad buy in Des Moines, Iowa; West Palm Beach, Fla.; and northern Virginia in June.” PPFA will be joined by NARAL and EMILY’s List in going after Mr. Romney in swing states.

“We have purchased ad time in northern Virginia, in Columbus, Ohio, and Toledo, Ohio, because they have high concentrations of undecided voters or swing voters,” Deirdre Schifeling, director of national organizing and electoral campaigns at Planned Parenthood Action Fund, told Bolton.

While not revealing its targeted states, NARAL told Bolton that it planned a similar effort to “educate voters on the Romney-Ryan record,” said Elizabeth Shipp, the group’s political director. “We’re going to spend significant resources on mail, television and online ads in swing states,” she said.

Without giving specific spending numbers, Shipp told Bolton that the figure would be similar to what NARAL spent in recent presidential elections–around $2.5 million in the 2008 election and $2.5 million in 2004. No numbers were given for EMILY’s List, which endorses only the most radical pro-abortionists.

Although not mentioned in this particular story, PPFA consistently runs ads that leave the impression Romney is out to eliminate Planned Parenthood. What he in fact has said on several occasions is that he would eliminate federal funding of the nation’s number one “provider” of abortions—more than 330,000 every year.

For example in an op-ed written for USA Today last November Romney wrote that he would “eliminate every government program that is not absolutely essential.”

That included “Title X family planning programs benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood” and repealing ObamaCare.

Prior to that op-ed, Romney laid out his pro-life views in more detail to a Values Voter Summit  in November (see www.mittromney.com/blogs/mitts-view/2011/10/mitt-romney-delivers-remarks-values-voter-summit).

In those remarks he covered such critical issues as federal funding of abortion, right of conscience, judicial appointments, and China’s vicious “One Child Policy,” which is built on forced abortions at any point in pregnancy. Romney said

“Our values must also encompass the life of an unborn child.  There are, of course, strong convictions on both sides of the life issue.  Yet, it speaks well of our country that almost all Americans recognize that abortion is a problem.  The law may call it a right, but no one ever called it a good.  And in the quiet of conscience, people of both political parties know that more than a million abortions a year cannot be squared with the good heart of America.

“I support the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions. As president, I will end federal funding for abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood. I will protect a health care worker’s right to follow their conscience in their work.  And I will nominate judges who know the difference between personal opinion and the law. It is long past time for the Supreme Court to return the issue of abortion back to the states, by overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Because the good heart of America knows no boundaries, a commitment to protecting life should not stop at the water’s edge.

Taking innocent life is always wrong and always tragic, wherever it happens.  The compassionate instincts of this country should not be silent in the face of injustices like China’s One-Child Policy.  And if I am president, you will never hear me or my vice president tell the Chinese government that we ‘understand’ and won’t ‘second guess’ compulsory sterilization and forced abortion.

“Almost all Americans live for a purpose greater than ourselves.  Our heritage of religious faith and tolerance has importantly shaped who we have become as a people.  We must continue to welcome faith into the public square and allow it to flourish. Our government should respect religious values, not silence them. We will always pledge our allegiance to a nation under God.

“Our values ennoble the citizen, and strengthen the nation. We should remember that decency and civility are values too.”

No wonder Planned Parenthood, NARAL, Emily’s List and other pro-abortion powerhouses are after Mr. Romney!
