One last item today, the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

Rasmussen reported over the weekend that those who consider themselves Republican hit an all-time high in August, jumping by nearly three points—from 34.9% in July to 37.6%. (The previous peak was 37.3% in September 2004. Rasmussen first reported these numbers in November 2002.)

The percentage of those identifying themselves as Democrats dropped slightly—from 34% in June and July to 33.3%. The percentage not affiliated with either party dropped from 31.1% in July, according to Rasmussen,  to 29.2%.

For us math-challenged types, that means Republicans enjoy at 4.2% advantage.

What a difference four years make. Just before the election in 2008, Democrats enjoyed a 5.7 point advantage—38.9% identifying as Democrats, 33.2% identifying as Republicans.
