Swing Voters turn against Obama when informed of his record of support for abortion and neglect of aborted babies born alive

Pro-abortion President Barack Obama

On Monday NRL News Today wrote about a survey released by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press that found abortion was more of an issue this year than we are led to believe, especially among women. (“Abortion issue grows in significance, latest Pew Survey concludes”).

Yesterday in explaining on a new poll conducted by The Polling Company for the Susan B. Anthony List, the Washington Examiner reported that when swing voters are exposed to the real story about President Obama’s support for abortion and his mandate violating religious freedom, it hurts him substantially.

What did the poll reveal?

“This survey shows that a few straightforward, specific facts about President Obama and abortion shock the collective conscience of swing voters in battleground states,” said pollster Kellyanne Conway. “His support for taxpayer-funded abortion, opposition to Born-Alive Infant protections and ‘intimidation through regulation’ foisted upon religious organizations draws the ire of between one-half and two-thirds of the voters surveyed,” she said.

(We wrote separately about the strong opposition to the government  “forc[ing]  institutions to pay for drugs that violate their conscience or religious belief” at “Religious Freedom: the ‘Sleeper’ issue of 2012.”)

Specifically, by a 2-1 margin, these voters from the swing states of Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Florida were less likely to vote for the President when told “the health care legislation known as Obamacare contains provisions that allow for taxpayer funding of abortion.”

And “54% of swing voters said they would be less likely (35% much less likely) to vote for President Obama after learning that he voted against a law to give equal treatment and constitutional protections to babies born alive after a failed abortion,” according to the poll. “The president’s record on the Born-Alive issue costs him support even among his supporters: Nearly half (49%) of voters leaning towards voting for President Obama said they would be less likely to do so after learning about his record.”

This latter result is highly instructive because even 43% of self-described “pro-choicers” were less likely to vote for the President.
