What’s airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “The Anti-Life Platform of the Democratic Party”

Pro-abortion President Barack Obama

With the Democratic Party kicking off its quadrennial convention today, National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias reminds her listeners that

“the pro-abortion advocacy that will be on display isn’t just confined to this week; it’s a year-round position of the Party. Indeed, the party has long forgotten its roots and is entirely beholden to the billion dollar abortion industry and is willing to do its deadly bidding at every turn.”

The exhibits are too numerous to elaborate other to mention that Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL, was appointed to the Democratic Platform Committee (and will speak tomorrow) and that other members of the committee, chaired by pro-abortion former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, make up a who’s who of the most vocal abortion advocates.

As resolutely pro-abortion as the Democratic Party has been, it became more so in 2008. Its platform then (as in 2012) stated in part that the party “strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.”

As Mrs. Tobias points out “Gone were any former references of the Party’s desire to see abortion as ‘rare,’ a change that is maintained in the 2012 platform.

As noted in several other National Right to Life News Today stories posted earlier today, the party platform on abortion is one bouquet tossed in the direction of the Abortion Establishment. But in doing so, the party is turning its back on a very significant number of its membership who aren’t comfortable with unlimited abortion for any reason.

Mrs. Tobias cites the May 2012 Gallup poll, which found 34% of Democrats self-identified as pro-life. That poll found 50% self-identified as pro-life.

You will want to listen to Mrs. Tobias at where you will learn more about how disconnected the national Democratic Party is from many self-identified Democrats. For example, that a May 2011 Gallup poll found that 44% of Democrats felt abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances (At that time 61% of the country felt abortion should be illegal in all or most cases).

Mrs. Tobias concludes

“Perhaps one day, the Democratic Party will escape the abortion industry’s shackles and embrace life. Until that day, however, pro-life Democrats will be forced into silence and submission at the hands of the most extreme abortion advocates in the country.”
