The graphic reproduced below appears on the blog of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), NRLC’s state affiliate, and is, in my humble opinion, brilliantly conceived and executed.
Upwards of 100,000 people typically come to Washington, DC for the annual March for Life, which will be held this year on January 25 so as not to conflict with the presidential inauguration. But a huge number of grassroots pro-lifers attend their own state rallies, often at the state capitol. Their impact can have a lot of influence on legislators who are more likely actually to their constituents by face.
So, what are the reasons pro-lifers should attend the state rallies?
- “Abortion is still legal.” Nobody ever said it was going to be easy. Reversing even the most egregiously wrong-head Supreme Court decisions is extremely difficult.
- “We must persevere.” Obvious, right? In one sense, yes. But it’s important to articulate that sentiment out loud, especially in the aftermath of a disappointing presidential contest.
- “Forty years is too long.” Legal abortion has cost the lives of over 55 million unborn babies.
- “You care about unborn children and their mothers.” And that separates us from pro-abortionists: we care about BOTH mother and unborn child.
- “Many laws have been passed that are saving lives every day.” This truth leads TIME magazine to write lead stories with headlines such as “What Choice? Abortion-rights activists won an epic victory in Roe v. Wade. They’ve been losing every since.”
- “Every state legislator will be at the Capitol.” You will have their ear.
- “MCCL [fill in the name of your NRLC state affiliate] has a strategic agenda to save more lives through public policy.” Productive pro-lifers know that nothing happens without a plan, often using the assistance providing by NRLC’s Department of State Legislation.
- Life is of supreme concern.” But you already know that!
Be sure to attend your state rallies. It’s a matter of life.
