Smart Phones and “Truth Booths” combine to Show Humanity of Unborn Children

A colleague at National Right to Life recently emailed me a photo of an ad that appeared in her local newspaper. It was titled, “Reflections: the Ultimate Prenatal Experience” and was about 3d and 4D ultrasounds.

This was separate from, but instantly reminded me of, what are known as “Truth Booth” about which we have written twice in NRL News Today. (See “Mall Kiosks Ideal for Continual Pro-life Education,”  and “Smart Phones Provide Mobile Tool to Help Women Choose Life.“)

Truth Booths are unmanned kiosks showing ultrasound images of the developing unborn child in the womb. Millions have already seen them at malls, community fairs, schools and other public and private venues throughout the United States and Canada.

The mission is to educate the public on the pre-natal development of the child in the womb using ultrasound video footage. It is factual and scientific, presented in an ingenious, gentle format that allows all age groups to comprehend our early development with clarity.

At the 2012 National Right to Life Convention, the originator of that concept told me he had handed the day-to-day operations off to the Cleveland Right to Life Education Fund. He eagerly explained about a genuinely revolutionary step forward in widening the impact of this incredibly powerful tool.

That quantum leap forward is something is QR Codes. They are nothing more than squares dots arranged in a square pattern on a white background.  In this case when read with “Smart Phone,” the viewer is taken directly to a three-minute video that shows 3D and 4D ultrasound images of developing children from eight to 34 weeks.

The potential impact is staggering.

“Imagine sitting in the waiting room of an abortion clinic and being able to see 3D and 4D ultrasound images of an unborn child through literature provided by a sidewalk counselor,” said Molly Smith, president of Cleveland Right to Life. “Statistics show that many women considering an abortion who see an ultrasound choose life.”

The QR code image can be downloaded free at It can be printed on the back of any business card or piece of literature. The images at the Truth Booth are absolutely non-controversial. But there are only so many places they can be installed.

With the QR code, a woman about to make a life and death decision is given the opportunity to see her baby. She doesn’t have to be literally about to walk in the front door of the abortion clinic. She can see what a baby looks like at any time after she learns she is pregnant and BEFORE she locks herself into thinking she MUST abort.

National Right to Life Educational Director Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon hailed this new pro-life educational tool.

“You can think of it as a life-affirming counterpart to webcam abortions,” he said. The abortionist uses technology—webcams—to multiple the number of abortions. The abortionist can be located hundreds of miles away from the woman but the RU486 is dispensed by remote control.

“Here it is the woman who is using technology—the Smart Phone—that may well result in a life-affirming outcome,” O’Bannon said. “She can be thousands of miles away from the Truth Booth and still be able to see what her baby looks like.”

He added, “Now this is the way our new communications technology is supposed to be used — to save lives, not to destroy them.”
