Surprise: Gosnell delays decision on how to plea on federal drug charges

Jun 13, 2013

By Dave Andrusko

Gosnell84From virtually the moment the jury convicted abortionist Kermit Gosnell of three counts of first degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter, his attorney was broadly hinting his client would not go to trial over federal drug charges but plead guilty. (“Authorities said that [Gosnell] ranked third in the state for OxyContin prescriptions and that he left blank prescription pads at his office and let staff members make them out to cash-paying patients,” the Associated Press has reported.)

Facing three consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole, Gosnell was expected to enter his guilty plea Wednesday. Instead his attorney, Jack McMahon, asked for a received a postponement until June 26 in order to have “more time to consult with Dr. Kermit Gosnell about the plea.”

McMahon’s a talkative type, so perhaps more details will come forth explaining Gosnell’s rationale.
