The Delaware County Daily Times reported Tuesday that last week charges against James Lynch, 29, were upgraded to include assault on an unborn child at his preliminary hearing in district court.

“He threatened to cut the baby out of her stomach,” police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told Linda Reilly. “He dragged her down a flight of stairs and around the apartment. She was bruised on her arms and right side.” Lynch also took the victim’s car.

The alleged threat came during an argument with Lynch’s unnamed ex-girlfriend August 26. She was treated at Delaware County Memorial Hospital and evidently both mother and child are okay.

Reilly reported that

“Lynch was ordered held for trial on charges of assault on an unborn child, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, burglary, robbery of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and harassment by Magisterial District Judge Kelly Micozzie-Aguirre.”

Lynch will be arraigned October 2.
