So, unborn baby, what is your preference?

pregnanttummy45I date my own introduction in the pro-life ethos (wholly unknown to me at the time) to the occasion umpteen years ago when my mother had me lay a hand on her abdomen to feel my youngest brother moving inside. Honestly, I am not exaggerating when I say I remember this 50-years’-old experience like it was yesterday.

A tip of the hat to lifenews for linking to a YouTube video that showed a near-full term baby moving/dancing inside their mom. That initial exposure triggered a quick search of You Tube archives for similar videos.

And they are as fascinating as they are funny, as diverse as they are delightful. My favorite was a women speaking in what I gathered is an East Asian language. She is whispering, as if her baby would cease his/her performance if the audience wasn’t paying rapt attention.

At the other end of the spectrum, a woman is playing a loud, fast-paced tune, which the baby clearly responds to.

Who knows, maybe the former will favor Rachmaninoff and the latter Usher. Either way, it is endlessly fascinating to see a baby only a few days or weeks from their birth signaling, “Hey, I’m here and I’m I listening.”

Now, if only we would listen—from the moment of conception forward.
