Given what has taken place in the last three weeks, including the devastating mid-term elections in which (likely) nine Democratic senators will have lost, it comes as no surprise that a new Quinnipiac University survey finds President Obama’s approval numbers below 40%.

His approval—39%– is down to within one point of his all-time low (back in November 2013), a time best remembered for the incredibly inept launching of Mr. Obama’s disapproval is at 54%.

The Hill’s Justin Sink neatly captured the core of the findings and how, in a real sense, the situation may be worse than it appears:

The president’s numbers are underwater with every party, gender, or age group other than Democrats and voters under 30 years old. A majority of voters say they’re happy Republicans seized control of the U.S. Senate, and a plurality say any resulting gridlock would be the president’s fault.

“With the exception of voters born after 1985, Obama’s approval is deep under water,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll.

As the summary chart from Quinnipiac University National Poll illustrates,

* President Obama’s approval among Republicans is miniscule (6%), less than it needs to be among Democrats (78%), and barely a third among independents (34%);

* Disastrously low among men (32%) and only 45% among women;

* And (as Sink noted) over 50% only among the youngest demographic.

3. Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?

In addition, Gallup finds disapproval of ObamaCare at 56%, an all-time high. Approval is at a mere 37%.
