Next GOP debate is December 15, Trump well ahead among Republican primary voters, according to latest poll

GOPrepublicansThe last debate among Republican presidential candidates takes place in five days in Las Vegas, Nevada. As has the sponsor of each debate, CNN is establishing its own criteria to determine which candidates will be on stage.

For the December 15 debate, there are three ways a candidate can qualify: have at least 3.5% in national polling, and 4% in average polling in either New Hampshire (the site of the first primary) or Iowa (the site of the first caucuses).

According to CNN’s Eric Bradner, writing earlier today,

Right now, nine candidates would make cut for the Republican National Committee sanctioned debate at The Venetian in Las Vegas: Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Paul is on the bubble for the debate. He clears the national hurdle of 3.5%, but doesn’t average 4% in either of the first two states to vote in the 2016 nominating process.

The debate will be moderated by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. CNN Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash and conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt will be questions, according to Bradner.

In the latest CBS/New York Times Poll, Mr. Trump is comfortably ahead among Republican primary voters with 35% support. He is followed by Sen. Cruz with 16 percent, Dr. Carson with 13%, and Sen. Rubio with 9%.
