stateofabortion2016reLast week, National Right to Life released its third annual “The State of Abortion in the United States” report. The 51-page document is must reading for all pro-life activists.

Over the next two or three days, I will flesh out parts of the analysis that are particularly useful as we approach the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Right out of the chute are nine different graphs illustrating the fact that most Americans oppose the vast majority of elective abortions that are performed each year. You’ll see some of the most telling Gallup poll results as well as those from the Marist poll and those from The Polling Company and Quinnipiac University.

Many of you are activists in your local communities. You know state legislation through and through. But the section “State Laws & Abortion” gives you a particularly helpful nation-wide overview, including a synopsis of state laws, a recounting of the history of the Texas law now before the Supreme Court, and some absolutely gorgeous charts that show you which states have passed which laws. And that includes everything from the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act through a Woman’s Right to Know/Informed Consent to laws which Prevent Taxpayer Subsidies for Abortion Coverage.

Tomorrow we’ll discuss the most in-depth portion of “The State of Abortion in the United States” report: Federal policy and abortion.

And don’t forget, you can read the entire report here.
