Dr. Carolyn Gerster
I would strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to read the in memoriam National Right to Life wrote today on the passing of Dr. Carolyn Gerster.
Dr. Gerster was president of National Right to Life from 1978 to 1980. She was succeeded by Dr. Jack Willke, who was the first NRLC president I worked for when I came on board in 1981. Now, along with their beloved spouses, these pioneers are no longer with us.
Dr. Gerster held a multiplicity of leadership posts in Arizona and at the National level. But I will remember her best for the two times–once for me and once for fellow member of the NRLC board of directors–that she came by and carefully checked out our symptoms. Talk about bedside manner. Dr. Gerster had it in abundance. (For years and years and years afterwards, Dr. Gerster would ask me if I’d had a recurrence of the symptoms.)
And I will always remember the first workshop I attended when Dr. Gerster playfully told her audience that “M.D.” did not stand for “Minor Deity.” For all her many, many accomplishments, she was genuinely modest.
Along with a handful of others, Dr. Gerster was there ‘at the creation’ of National Right to Life. Her contributions were invaluable and all pro-lifers are eternally in her debt.
Our prayers go out to her family.
