Indianewborn4reAccording to The Indian Express New Service, for the second time in a little over a week, authorities have caught someone not medically authorized to perform a chemical abortion doing just that in Panchkula, which is in Northern India.

The accused is Dr. Sucheta Sahni, a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery), an alternative, “holistic” medicine.

The Indian Express reported today that local police, in conjunction with the health department, raided her clinic.

This followed a surprise inspection in which “a young unmarried woman was sent as a decoy, who pretended to be pregnant and requested the doctor to get her pregnancy terminated.”

The accused doctor was caught “red-handed,” the Indian Express reported, accepting money after agreeing to give the woman a chemically-induced abortion (called MTP–Medical Termination of Pregnancy).

There were two other women in the clinic, who had also come to get their MTP done, according to the Indian Express. “We are investigating the matter further,” said [Deputy Civil Surgeon Saroj] Aggarwal. The team also recovered medicines and MTP equipment from the clinic.”

A similar raid and arrest took place February 1 in Raipur Rani, which is also located in the Panchkula district in the Indian state of Haryana.
