Bountiful Blessings on Thanksgiving

carol-psalms          We in the right-to-life movement have much to be thankful for this year. We have avoided the election of Hillary Clinton whose major objective would have been not merely to solidify the Culture of Death, but to expand it using your tax dollars. Instead, our nation chose pro-life Donald Trump.

More generally, after nearly 44 years of abortion, opposition to this unparalleled assault on innocent human life is stronger than ever.

I am thankful that our ranks keep growing as more people get involved—people of different ages, especially younger people; people of different faiths or no faith; people of different backgrounds and experiences.

I am thankful that we see the numbers of abortion continue to decline as more and more mothers choose life for their unborn children. That is no accident. It reflects your consistent day in, day out witness on behalf of mothers and their unborn children.

I am thankful for all the wonderful people who operate the pregnancy resource centers. Thanks to their faithfulness,  these mothers have a place to go for help and support during a difficult time in their lives.

And thinking back to our national elections, I am thankful that American voters placed so many pro-life men and women into positions of authority for the coming years– in the White House, the Congress, and in state legislatures.

We don’t know what the future holds for the pro-life movement. That is known only to God. But, as one friend recently said to me, “We have hope.”

We have hope— we expect with confidence– that good legislation will be passed and anti-life legislation will be defeated.

We have hope that men and women appointed to the Supreme Court and federal judgeships will recognize that unborn babies are human beings, deserving of legal protection. We look forward to the future with anticipation because we expect good things to happen.

If the election had turned out the other way, we would certainly have continued the fight. Why? Simply because to be pro-life is to never give up. While Hope would have been a little more difficult to achieve, confidence in the ultimate outcome would never, could never have waned.

I am thankful for all the wonderful, dedicated, selfless people who labor in the pro-life movement, especially those who work within our affiliates and chapters.  As you gather with family and friends, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. It is an honor and a blessing to work beside you as we seek to restore the unalienable right to life for all human beings, born and unborn.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
