The American tradition of Thanksgiving speaks to what we are at the heart of our nation–a country which recognizes the spectacular nature of our blessings. From the sheer magnificence of our land’s natural beauty to the richness of our cultural heritage, the United States remains an incredibly graced place in so many ways.
As a prelude to the holiday, here are the top ten reasons to give thanks (pro-life edition):
1. The incoming Trump-Pence Administration is committed to appointing Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who will uphold the U.S. Constitution, rather than rewrite it to suit a pro-abortion agenda.
2. We now have greater hope of seeing the travesty of Roe v. Wade overturned in our lifetime. Untold millions of precious pre-born babies and their mothers could be spared the harm of abortion as a result.
3. The President of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion operation, conceded that Roe v. Wade was essentially on the ballot this year–and Roe lost.
4. The threat of repealing the Hyde Amendment has vanished like a losing candidate the week after an election. The Hyde Amendment, which must be renewed each year, bars taxpayer funding of abortion except in the rare cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of a mother.
5. An estimated two million lives have been saved by the Hyde Amendment since 1976. President-Elect Trump would like the amendment to become permanent law, guaranteeing that the lives of unborn children could be saved for years to come.
6. The annual March for Life, which will occur in Washington, D.C. on January 27th, is likely to be stronger and more vibrant than ever, thanks to renewed enthusiasm for the pro-life cause.
7. Some of the most committed, most ardent members of the pro-life movement are young adults, who see the devastation that Roe has caused to their generation and want it to end.
8. From the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court to the corridors of state Capitols, the voices of the many women who have been deeply wounded by abortion are being heard–and their courageous witness is helping to change public policy.
9. Pregnancy help centers that provide comprehensive counseling and support to women and their families vastly outnumber abortion centers in the U.S.
10. Someone at your Thanksgiving table might be there all because another someone cared enough to help a pregnant woman through a challenging pregnancy.
So rejoice this Thanksgiving, knowing that the righteous cause of life is winning–one heart and one vote at a time!
