Cold temperatures and long distances did not keep approximately 2,000 pro-lifers from descending upon the Kansas Statehouse to stand up for both the pre-born and the aging/medically fragile deserving to stay alive.
A diverse crowd from every age group, faith tradition, and corner of Kansas were united at Kansans for Life’s march and rally for life.
Governor Brownback and Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer addressed the crowd, and were joined by Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes, Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer and around 40 members of the legislature. Other special guests included all four of the state’s Catholic Bishops, Pastor David Epps of Billy Graham’s Bible Ministry, as well as other religious.
At one of four informational workshops KFL conducted that day, Mrs. Krystle Pauly shared her family’s experience with choosing life — not abortion — for her two babies with life-limiting conditions. Click here to read the Pauly family story.
At the rally, KFL Executive Director Mary Kay Culp unveiled our legislative agenda for the year, which will focus on the following areas:
1. DISCLOSE ACT: Updates crucial abortion information women deserve under the Woman’s Right to Know Law;
2. SIMON’s LAW: Ensures that parents have consent over life-sustaining treatment for minors and exposes medical facility “futility” policies that deny care based on “quality of life;”
3. LIFE SUPPORT: which corrects a prevalent-but legally deficient-form assigned to the medical file of elderly and medically challenged adults.
You will be hearing more from us about these bills in upcoming alerts. Stay tuned!
