Pro-life Vice President Mike Pence

If you were going to give an example of a 15- minute textbook-perfect explanation of why “Life is Winning in America,” you could not do better than pro-life Vice President Mike Pence’s remarks Tuesday in Nashville.

Mr. Pence’s speech brimmed over with the kind of encouraging statements that would motivate any pro-life audience. Here are just three examples:

#1. “I truly do believe, if all of us do all that we can, that we will once again, in our time, restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law. But we have to do the work. So let’s do the work.”

#2. “I mean, for all the progress since 1973, the resilience of this movement proceeding out of the heart of a compassionate nation, I just know in my heart of hearts that this will be the generation that restores life in America.” And…

#3. “I see more progress in the last year in the cause of life than I have seen in public policy in all my years in public life.”

Vice President Pence outlined just some of the components of that “progress” made under the leadership of President Donald Trump, described by Mr. Pence as “The most pro-life President in American history.” He began by noting, “From the very first day of this administration, President Trump has been keeping his word to stand without apology for the sanctity of human life,” before summarizing just a few of all the many Trump/Pence administration has accomplished:

The expanded Mexico City Policy to cut off taxpayer funding for the U.N. Population Fund, (which colludes with China’s cruel program of forced abortion and sterilization); signing H.J. Res. 43 into law, to overturning a regulation by the outgoing Obama Administration which prohibited States from defunding certain abortion facilities in their federally-funded family planning programs, to appointing “strict constructionists” to the federal courts, such as Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch

But there was much more than policy (and the hiring of pro-life personnel, which the Vice President quite correctly noted President Trump has done en masse). He talked about how “Life is winning through the compassion of caregivers and volunteers at crisis pregnancy centers and faith-based organizations that are coming alongside young women with crisis pregnancy with support and with love and encouragement.”

Moreover, “Life is winning through the generosity of millions of adoptive families that are opening their homes to children in America every day,” Mr. Pence said.

And then the Vice President offered the “ultimate” reason “Life is winning in America” which is

because of all of you and the people that you represent all across this country. It is — as President Trump said well, it is a movement born out of love. In these divided times in the life of our nation, I couldn’t be more proud of the deep compassion of the pro-life movement and the continued commitment to be there to love them both.

A wonderful speech, an encouraging speech, and a speech that reminds all pro-lifers that we will ultimately win for unborn babies and their mothers because we “love them both.”
