Massive pro-life turnout in R.I. for hearing on radical abortion measure

Thank you to all of you who responded to our action alert and, especially, to the many who showed up yesterday at the State House. We easily outnumbered the Planned Parenthood crowd by 3 to 1, or even more.

The hearings finally ended at around 1:30 a.m. Planned Parenthood’s extreme abortion bill was held for further study. And while such bills, technically, remain alive until the end of the session, I am confident, after last night’s massive pro-life turnout along with an equally massive number of emails you all sent, in saying that their bill is dead in the House for the remainder of this session.

What happens next year will be determined on the Wednesday, September 12 Statewide Primaries. Please note, however, that there may yet be a hearing on the Senate side.

I want to express my immense gratitude for the many people who came out to defend life, particularly the young folks from Revive Ministry, and from Providence College for Life, from St. Patrick’s. Fr. Bernie Healey has some excellent photos on Twitter.

I also wanted to thank some of our expert witnesses, particularly Prof. Dwight Duncan, Atty. Joseph Cavanagh, and the incredibly dynamic husband and wife duo of Dr. Thomas Heyne and Dr. Nancy Hernandez Heyne, pediatricians whose testimony is well worth watching beginning at the 4:50:40 mark.

I also want to thank the members of the Committee for their patience and perseverance staying late into the night and being respectful to all those who testified.

Editor’s note. As Rhode Island Right to Life explained in a previous post, “This bill would make Rhode Island a haven for abortionists with virtually unrestricted and unregulated taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand right up to the moment of birth — including partial-birth abortions and late-term dismemberment abortions on pain capable unborn children.”
