Mike DeWine Leads Slate of Pro-Life Victories in Ohio

May 9, 2018

Voters Choose Strong Pro-Life Candidates for Statewide and Legislative Races

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Yesterday, 89% of Ohio Right to Life PAC endorsed candidates won their primary races. At the top of the ticket, Mike DeWine (R)won his race to become the pro-life candidate for governor in the November General Election. Rep. Robert Sprague (R) won his race for Republican candidate for Treasurer of State.

Notably, Anthony Gonzalez (R)won his primary race for the 16th Congressional District, and Rep. Jim Renacci (R)won his primary race for U.S. Senate. Rep. Renacci will take on pro-abortion Sherrod Brown (D)in the November election.

“Ohio Right to Life is thrilled to see so many of our endorsed candidates succeed in the Primary Election,” said Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life. “These men and women are some of pro-life Ohio’s best and brightest. Simply put, the Ohio Right to Life endorsement remains the gold standard for political candidates to achieve success at the ballot box.”

Since 2011, retiring Gov. Kasich has signed 20 Ohio Right to Life initiatives passed by the Ohio General Assembly, and abortions have reached historic lows in Ohio, dropping over 25% in that same time period. Many people contributed to these victories, including state Senator Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville), who won his race to be the candidate for the 12th Congressional District, state Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville), state Representative Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg), and state Representative Derek Merrin (R-Monclova Township).

“Ohio’s voters made one thing clear on Tuesday: they want pro-life office holders to represent them,” said Marshal Pitchford, Ohio Right to Life PAC Chairman. “The Ohio Right to Life PAC will tirelessly advocate on behalf of pro-life candidates statewide. We are confident that Ohio’s future is very pro-life.”
