To be candid, I wasn’t sure that anything could prompt pro-abortion-to-the-hilt New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to go even further in his relentless campaign to promote abortion in the Empire State. But I had not anticipated he would be challenged by someone even zanier on abortion than he is—fellow Democrat Cynthia Nixon.

So the governor called a press conference Monday and surrounded by supporters gathered at the Grinton I. Will Public Library in Yonkers, urged the GOP-led Senate to immediately reconvene to pass the Reproductive Health Act which is even more radical than Roe.

“Mark my words, they are moving to roll back Roe v. Wade, that is going to be the next move by this president,” Cuomo said of President Donald Trump who had just nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Supreme Court justice. “They say it. It’s not like you have to read the tea leaves..

Cuomo said if Republicans don’t pass the Reproductive Health Act, voters will say, “You’re fired from the New York State Senate.”

Not to be outdone, Nixon had her own press conference Tuesday where she waved a coat hanger and told her supporters, ‘We must fight like hell in New York and across the country to preserve Roe vs. Wade so that no woman will ever feel compelled to use something like this on herself again.”

Candice Giove, a spokeswoman for Senate Republicans, said the bill would allow nondoctors to perform abortions and might lessen rights of pregnant women who suffer physical abuse. According to the New York Catholic Conference, “This legislation is very specific in reversing these protections, that any health care practitioner licensed under Title Eight of the Education Law may perform an abortion.”

Cuomo is so “frightened” of challenger Cynthia Nixon, Giove charged, that it’s the governor who has drunk “the Kool-Aid of radicals and socialists who now control the Democratic Party.”

As NRL News Today previously reported, Gov. Cuomo has been relentless. For example, he has proposed “codifying” Roe via an amendment to the state Constitution. But while the state Assembly is controlled by pro-abortion Democrats, the state Senate is under Republican leadership.
