In a revealing move to the left of even Jerry Brown, Democrat gubernatorial-candidate Gavin Newsom yesterday announced his avid support for a measure to use all 10 of the University of California and all 23 California State University campuses as chemical-abortion dispensaries. The measure would represent the greatest, single expansion of the abortion industry in the nation.

The measure is so sweeping in its scope that even outgoing pro-abortion governor Jerry Brown had found it to be superfluous and unnecessary. In his veto measure Brown pointed out that government-funded abortion facilities are already available within a very short drive of each campus. Brown vetoed the sweeping measure, saying such services are “widely available” to students at off-campus clinics.

“I would have supported that. I have long supported that,” Newsom said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I subscribe to Planned Parenthood and NARAL’s position on that.”

RU-486, the chemical-abortion cocktail in question, has already claimed lives in California. was established by Monty Patterson after the sudden death of his daughter through the use of the powerful artificial steroid. Patterson is still pro-choice but deeply alarmed at the-ongoing cover up of the real risks of the chemical abortion procedure.

Newsom, like Brown, claims Catholic background and Jesuit training, including studying in Rome. But his more extreme abortion-advocacy leaves him far to the left of even the most “progressive elements” within Catholicism. The Church’s teaching on abortion and intentional killing of innocent human beings is still an essential part of Catholic doctrine.

Republican gubernatorial nominee John Cox, also a Catholic, has promised to work to see that the government gets completely out of the abortion business.
