House of Representatives tacks pro-abortion language into legislation dealing with government shutdown

As you read yesterday, the House of Representatives, whose leadership is now in the hands of the likes of pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi, intends to try to undue pro-life legislation and policies, beginning with adding language to legislation dealing with the partial governmental shutdown.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act would fund organizations that actively promote abortion overseas, undoing the Trump administration’s Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance program, and add additional funding for the United Nations Population Fund.

There was an effort by Rep. Granger to strip out the pro-abortion language from the spending bill, but the motion to recommit the bill failed by a vote of 199-232.

Late this evening, the final spending bill, which contained the abortion provisions, passed by a vote of 241-190.

Pro-abortion Democrats can’t stand that the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance policy establishes an eligibility criterion for U.S. funding: If a group is unwilling to agree to avoid promotion of abortion, that group will not receive any type of U.S. support.

There is a bitter irony in that the measure comes just days after an organization that tracks death statistics reported that last year there were approximately 41.95 million abortions carried out around the world. The figure, released on December 31, came from Worldometers, “which issues live tallies on global births and deaths, based on statistics published by the World Health Organization.”

Already, as of Wednesday morning, only the second day of the new year, the live abortion tracker at Worldometers reports that there have been 165,000 global abortions.

What does this have to do with the Consolidated Appropriations Act?

Pro-abortionists are obsessed—no lesser word will do— that there is an “unmet need” for abortion anywhere on the globe.

Contrary to the clear limitations of the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance program, they want to perform abortions; they want to lobby to change the abortion laws of host countries, or otherwise “actively promote abortion as a method of family planning.” To them abortion is “health care” and just a subset of “family planning.”
