Why do I know that the appearance of Vice President Pence and President Trump, by video message, were huge hits at today’s March for Life?

The easy answer is the huge throng went wild with cheers and applause. And an even easier answer (come to think of it) was the behavior of a trio of Washington Post reporters .

The early version of their already grumpy story argued with the theme of the annual March: “Unique from Day One: Pro-Life is Pro-Science.” If you believe the Post, it’s controversial to state the self-evident: that life begins at conception.

But they got really annoyed with the “surprise” appearances of Mr. Pence and President Trump. Why?

This gave them the opportunity to tell an appreciative audience all that the administration has accomplished its first two years and to inform the cheering audience that the President had sent pro-abortion Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a letter stating flatly, “I will veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life Federal policies and laws, or that encourage the destruction of innocent human life at any stage.”

A massive March for Life crowd as it begins its journey to the Supreme Court.

If ever there was a time when I wished the Park Service would once again give crowd estimates, today was that day. I understand that it is easy to get caught up in the spirit of the Rally and March, but I can honestly say this seemed to be the largest crowd that I had ever been a part of—and my first March for Life was 1982.

One of the best evidences is how many people you see on the side streets. They were already packed a half-hour before the noon-time start.

Another is that the crowd actually on the Mall extended for blocks. If that weren’t enough, I started circling around about 12:30 to get a sense of late-arrivals. People just kept coming and coming and coming.

A great day for the Pro-Life Movement and for the unborn children for whom they work so hard.
