As a measure of its importance, Thursday’s edition of National Right to Life News Today features seven separate posts investigating the insanity that has gripped pro-abortionists in New York and, more specifically, Virginia. Why?

For many reasons that go way beyond “we told you so.”

Democrats, who for decades have been firmly in the pro-abortion camp, have taken up arms to obliterate any impediments to the “right” of a woman to abort her child up until birth and withhold anything other than “comfort care,” should the baby miraculously survive the abortion.

It is a sobering time.

And that is one major reason I so appreciated pro-life Vice President Mike Pence’s op-ed in the National Review Online. You can read it in its entirety here, so let me highlight just a few facets of “Life Is Under Attack.”

*Under the category of look how far the “Democratic Party has fallen,” the Vice President writes

To support, let alone cheer, late-term abortions not only marks a disturbing step backward by so-called “progressives” — it also violates every demand of human decency. As modern science has moved the point of viability ever earlier in pregnancy, most Americans have agreed that a child who can survive outside the womb deserves a chance at life. …

Until we heard those cheers coming from Albany and the defense of the indefensible over the airwaves in Virginia, we thought states were moving beyond such barbaric practices.

*However being enraged does nothing for the babies unless we are engaged in the battle. Mr. Pence counsels

These Virginia and New York late-term abortion bills should be a call to action for all Americans. A society can be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable, and it would be unconscionable for us to let this moment pass in silence. We must recommit ourselves, today and every day, to restoring the sanctity of life to the center of American law.

*The diabolic irony. This monomania to ensure that no “unwanted” baby survives—no matter how close to birth or even after, if she is “imperfect”– comes at a time when “Fewer abortions are being performed than ever recorded — a decrease of more than 50 percent since the 1980s.”

*So how in the presence of such evil can Mr. Pence counsel that “Americans should take heart”?

The New York and Virginia bills aren’t some bold departure into a brave new world. They are the last gasp of a dying movement that stands in stark and irreconcilable contrast with our nation’s timeless founding principles.

After all, at the base of the same One World Trade Center that was bathed in pink last week to mark the passage of New York’s law, is the September 11th memorial. There, the names of all who died in the horrific terrorist attacks 18 years ago are etched in stone — including the eleven unborn children we lost along with their expectant mothers.

Our commitment to the unalienable right to life is as sure as the stone in which those names are etched. And our administration, and our movement, will continue to fight until our nation once again recognizes and celebrates the sanctity of all human life.

Our nation’s core values are under attack by an ideology that feeds on death, that gorges itself at the table of inhumanity.

What Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia, and state Delegate Kathy Tran of the Commonwealth are doing reminds me of Proverbs 4:16.

For they cannot rest until they do evil;
they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

Let us not grow weary, even for a moment. Evil’s insatiable appetite for death guarantees it never takes a day off.
