As of this morning, police are still searching for evidence to help them find the mother of a 20-week-old unborn baby whose body was found Monday morning near George Gershwin Junior High in Brooklyn, New York.
The baby—or “fetus” as the local media described the baby—was discovered alongside a bag of bloody clothing by someone walking their dog.
NBC News Connecticut’s Marc Santia reported
“You could see the blood inside of the bag from the clothes,” said Veronica Sexton, another witness who only saw the bag.
“The clothes were drenched in blood. It was a horrific sight to see.”
Sexton told The Sun newspaper’s Jon Lockett
“I came in and told my mother, there is a bag with bloody clothes, I’m gonna call the cops, it doesn’t look right. She came outside to look at it and she said to just leave it.”
Lockett also reported that New York police detectives “could be seen going door to door to see if anyone had surveillance footage showing someone leaving the fetus.”
Great Britain had a similar ugly case recently, Lockett reported, but with a happier ending:
Earlier this month, a newborn baby was found dumped in a plastic Sainsbury’s bag after being abandoned in an East London park in freezing temperatures.
The baby girl, named Roman by hospital staff after the road she was found on, was discovered in Newham late on Thursday night and taken to the hospital.
