Fourth Texas Town Passes Ordinance Banning Abortions within City Limits

Joaquin City Council voted to declare the East Texas town a Sanctuary City for the Unborn on Tuesday, September 17. In a unanimous vote, the city passed the ordinance, which declares abortion to be murder, prohibits abortion businesses from setting up shop within the town, and bans abortion at all stages within city limits.

Joaquin is now the fourth city in Texas to pass such an ordinance, following in the footsteps of Waskomin June and Omaha and Naples earlier this month. Pro-Life Texans across the state, disappointed with Texas House leadership’s failure to protect preborn children during the recent Regular Session of the 86th Texas Legislature, are standing up to protect their preborn neighbors by introducing these local ordinances.

During the debate over the measure, Pro-Life citizens of Joaquin shared their support for the elected council members standing up for Life. Krystal Raybon shared, “This is very close to my heart. I’m blessed by my son but I cannot have any more children. If any women just can’t take care of their child and needs a loving family, our home is open.”

Texas Right to Life applauds the members of Joaquin City Council for their bold action to protect preborn children. In the months to come, we anticipate more and more cities will follow Joaquin’s example and act to prevent the violence of the abortion industry from spreading to their communities.
