SB 24—the law mandating the distribution of the RU486 chemical abortion regimen on all University of California and Cal State campuses—is now on Gov, Newsom’s desk. But the circumstances are dramatically different than when originally drafted.

First, the State Department of Finance declared itself opposed.

Then the State College and University system did not want to administrate the project, so on Friday, September 6, state Sen. Connie Leyva, the bill’s author, amended the measure to have it administered by the State Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.

But these changes further complicated the machinery of the bill. They are yet more reasons for Gov. Newsom NOT to sign this measure.

Let the Governor know.

This measure mandating chemical abortion distribution on state College and University campuses is the single-greatest expansion of the California abortion industry since Rose Bird’s State Supreme Court mandate of unlimited abortion funding. It may be extended to next session as a two-year bill.

THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE OPPOSES THE CAMPUS DISTRIBUTION OF RU 486.

This measure goes far beyond simple acceptance of “choice.” SB 24 is part of the dramatic state-sponsored expansion of the abortion industry in our state. The chemical abortion procedure is in itself gruesome and dangerous. For more about this, go here.
