Attendees to the March for Life express their gratitude to President Trump

Jan 29, 2020

By Dave Andrusko

Whether you were a high school student attending your first March for Life or a veteran (like me) who has been a part of this great rally of grassroots pro-life America since 1982,  we were all encouraged and motivated and inspired by the appearance of Donald Trump, the first President ever to attend in person.

His speech was so electrifying we have already posted seven different stories about the impact of his visit to the hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers assembled on the National Mall last Friday.

Today and tomorrow, we’ll run stories with the insight of various pro-life leaders whom I asked to write a few words.

* “Thoughts from March for Life 2020,” by Chet Rucinski, who is an at-large committee member of the National Right to Life Board.

Every year for 47 years pro-lifers march. Hundreds of thousands come to DC because pro-lifers are the only voices for the unborn, the most defenseless of our human family. My wife and I have been to many, but this one was different! It took almost half a century for a sitting president to come and stand with us.

As Donald J. Trump began to speak, the crowd moved in mass closer and closer to the stage, eyes wide with expectation—many stretching arms high to take pictures, to wave flags and banners.

This President had earned our respect. He came before us with promises made and promises kept and reassured us that his respect for life was genuine and lasting. For example, President Trump said, “I notified Congress that I would veto any legislation that weakens pro-life policies or that encourages the destruction of human life.” He went on to say he would remain a strong defender of life because the Bible tells us each person is “wonderfully made.”

All hands clapped with joy! Our hearts were full that day!

We’ve returned home inspired and determined.

* “Unprecedented! Historical! Wonderfully awesome! by Valerie Johnson who is also an at-large committee member of the National Right to Life Board

No doubt about it, we absolutely are winning! We could feel the wind at our back when President Trump took the stage at the March for Life. The President of the United States of America affirmed which has never been more obvious–that the right to life should be defended and protected.

After hearing what he had to say, we are encouraged and buoyed up because he is one of us! President Trump follows through and does what he says he will do. He will continue to protect and defend the right to life.

*” The energy from the President’s remarks carried through the afternoon” by Julie Schmit-Albin, Executive Director of Nebraska Right to Life.

Some kindly teens and an older gentleman from Virginia allowed me to join them in the security line outside the perimeter set up for the President’s address to the March for Life. I was trying to meet up with fellow NRLC board members Melissa from Nevada and Maggie from Missouri. As it turned out I got closer to the stage and the Jumbotron than my friends did. I had an exciting view of this historic moment, the first time a President has addressed the March for Life in person!

The energy from the President’s remarks carried through the afternoon as hundreds of thousands of young, old, and in-between pro-lifers made their way up Constitution Avenue to the U. S. Supreme Court where it all started 47 years ago.

So many ask why we still march in the cold of January, not just in DC but in cities all across the U.S.  We do because unborn babies still die by the tens of thousands every January. And so we march.

President Trump’s personal gift to the pro-life movement, by Dr. Wanda Franz, president of West Virginians for Life.

President Trump knows the impact his personal presence makes on people, and he demonstrates that at his rallies. His attendance at this year’s March for Life was his way of giving his personal gift to the pro-life movement.

However, even more than his public statements, it is what he does behind the scenes that shows his dedication to the cause of life. Pro-life presidents can have an enormous impact on policies because it is the role of the Executive Branch of Government to enact the laws and determine the rules that affect spending. Never has there been an administration that implemented pro-life policies the way the Trump administration has done.
