Only a matter of time before truth and common decency carries the day for unborn babies and abortion survivors

Feb 27, 2020

By Dave Andrusko

For the last post of the day, I will just highlight a couple of points from an essay you must read in its entirety. “Protecting the Unborn From the Ultimate Pain” ran just prior to debate over the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivor Act.

The author is Maureen Ferguson, a senior fellow at The Catholic Association, and an exquisite writer.

Mrs. Ferguson systemically demolishes the myths on which the Abortion Lobby rests its unyielding opposition to caring for babies who survive abortions and insistence that it’s perfect okay to abort huge, mature unborn babies who are capable of experiencing gruesome pain as they are slaughtered.

She first tackles “Late abortions are very rare, and done only in cases of severe maternal or fetal health problems– true or false?” The irony of the evidence she offers to prove that this is patently false comes from Washington, DC, the very location where debate over these measures took place on Tuesday.

Ferguson writes

In the nation’s capital, just a stone’s throw from the Senate chambers, four clinics routinely perform late-term abortions.  They operate in plain sight and openly advertise purely elective second- and third-trimester abortions.

One advertises “up to 36 weeks”!

That’s Part One—these abortion are not rare,  as any senator could have known had they wanted to look in the phone book or send an aid.

Then, Part Two

The abortion lobby’s own research shows late-term abortions are primarily performed on healthy women carrying healthy babies: “data suggest that most women seeking later terminations are not doing so for reasons of fetal anomaly or life endangerment.”

As I said at the beginning, I want you to read this entire essay at Real Clear Politics. One by one she clears away the rhetorical underbrush not only about the number of and the reason for these abortions, but also provides a reality check reminding her readers that pro-abortion senators cannot “hide behind the myth that the fetus cannot feel pain until later in pregnancy. ”

This flies in the face of stunning new research by a pro-choice expert in pain published in the influential Journal of Medical Ethics. This study concluded the fetus is capable of feeling pain early in its existence, possibly as early as 13 weeks gestation. The author says society flirts “with moral recklessness” if we don’t change permissive abortion laws.

Pro-life Republicans were unable to surmount a pro-abortion filibuster. Thanks to near unanimous opposition from pro-abortion Democrats, they could not ‘invoke cloture,’ which requires 60 votes.

They can, for a while longer, “deny these hard truths,” but you can be confident that one day truth—and common decency—will carry the day for unborn babies and abortion survivors.
