Abortion Still Open for Business

Mar 19, 2020

The Pro-Life Movement Must Continue Amid Virus

By Ben Clapper, Executive Director, Louisiana Right to Life

Life as we know it has changed due to the coronavirus. But the abortion industry in Louisiana is still open for business.

In fact, the parking lot at the Delta abortion facility in Baton Rouge was full Tuesday, with the clinic clearly disregarding President Trump’s guidelines to avoid non-essential gatherings of 10 or more people. Abortion is voluntary, and pregnancy can continue. Adoption and parenting are positive options, and both public and private help is available. To help stem the spread of the virus, these facilities should be closed. Instead, they continue to sell abortion and make money.

While we have had to cancel events and other efforts, our work must continue. We have outlined a few ways on our blog we can remain effective for life, both with regards to abortion and our care for the elderly and vulnerable. Here are two recommendations I want to highlight:

Pray Safely At an Abortion Facility: If you live in the same city as an abortion facility, we suggest you go out to pray, keeping in mind appropriate coronavirus guidelines and social distancing. If abortion facilities insist on being open then we should be there offering our love and hope, as long as we are doing this in a cautious manner.

Help the Elderly: The elderly and vulnerable in your community need your assistance. If you know specific people or neighbors who need your help with groceries, supplies, etc., please safely reach out to them.

Many nursing homes are quarantined, and residents there may even be isolated from one another. Call a nursing home and ask if you can help. Send a card (or a bunch of them) to a nursing home, or even write letters asking for a “pen pal” resident to write you back. You can offer hope and human connection to them in this dark time.

Please be assured of our prayers for you, your family, and all those impacted by the coronavirus. If you need to reach out, please email us at info@prolifelouisiana.org or see our staff page and find the email addresses for our team.

For a Pro-Life Louisiana.
